World AIDS Day observed!

Plano Vigil marks World AIDS Day

December, 1, 2011 - Plano Star Courier by Bill Conrad

Remembering victims of AIDS and working to remove the disease's stigma will be two of the goals of those attending tonight's World AIDS Day ceremony in Plano.

One of the event co-sponors is Health Services of North Texas, which provides free healthcare to people with AIDS and HIV out of its Plano location. Dale McEowen, the Medical Case Manager for the organization, said the group provides care to those who have few other options, including those who don't have health insurance.

"We have about 125 patients who are HIV positive or have AIDS, making us one of the largest providers of healthcare in the area,", he said. "It is important for people to know that this is a chronic disease that needs to be taken care of. People are now lliving long lives with the disease, but that requires medical treatment and doctor supervision."
